US deportation flight carrying illegal Indian migrants lands in Punjab

A US deportation flight that carried Indian nationals accused of entering the United States illegally landed in the northern Punjab State on Wednesday – the first such flight to India since Trump’s administration launched the suppression of illegal immigrants.

The military aircraft, which landed in the midst of solid security, brought 104 deports, according to media reports. The authorities did not confirm that number, but they said they would deport them to be received in a friendly way.

New Delhi, who does not want to make an illegal immigration controversial problem with Washington, said he was open to the return of unfathomable Indians in the United States if their citizenship is checked.

President Donald Trump said last week that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured him that the Earth would “do what is right” in taking over illegal immigrants. His comment came after a telephone conversation with Modi.

In New Delhi, the Ministry of Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said on Friday at media briefing that India and the United States were involved in the compensation process of illegal migration, and “cooperation between India and the US is strong and effective in this domain. It will be obvious in the coming times. “

Trade and migration are expected to be key questions during a meeting that could happen next week between Trump and Modi.

“India does not want to focus on the issue of deportation of illegal migrants. We know it’s a big job in India, sending migrants illegally. Instead, the interest of the Government is to ensure that Trump’s administration does not limit legal migration channels to the US for Indian nationals, “said Manoj Joshi, a distinguished associate in Observer Research Foundation in New Delhi.

These legal routes are H-1B visas for qualified workers and visas for students.

“Both parties are included in the Illegal migration damages, and at the same time create several ways for legal migration from India to the US,” Jaiswal said.

The number of Indian migrants who have tried to enter the United States has increased illegally in recent years, and India has now been the largest number of illegal immigrants to the United States from Asian countries, according to US customs and border protection.

Their total numbers, however, are still small; Indians make up only about 3 percent of illegal transitions.

The United States identified about 18,000 unfathomable Indian migrants who will be returned home, Bloomberg reported last week.

The deportations for India are not new – between October 2023 and September 2024. More than 1,000 Indian nationals were returned, but the flight on Wednesday was the first time they had returned them to military aircraft.

The deportation flight is diverted to the city of Amritsar in Punjab, which is among the three countries in which a large part of illegal migration from India to the United States originates. The others are Haryana in the north and the western state of Gujarat.

A few hours before the flight landed, Punjab’s Minister for NRI (Unreadest Indians), Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, urged people in the country to avoid illegal migration and instead focus on gaining skills and education for access to global capabilities through legal channels.
